Policies & Procedures

At Stress-Me-Knot Massage, we understand that unanticipated events occur in everyone's life. Unforeseen events such as sick children, car problems, traffic considerations, business meetings, and project deadlines, are just a few reasons why one might consider canceling a massage appointment.

In our commitment to provide a unique and outstanding massage experience to all of our clients and out of consideration for our therapists' time, we have adopted the following policies:

ARRIVAL TO YOUR SESSION
Please arrive for your appointment(s) 10 minutes prior to the scheduled starting time. This allows you the time to fill out the appropriate client forms, change and prepare for the service. All services offered have a specific time schedule and early arrival allows for a relaxed and unhurried experience. If late arrival is inevitable, your service(s) may be shortened in order to keep on schedule.  Every client is important to us and since our sessions are for the full allotted time billed we want to be able to keep everyone on schedule which helps keep everyone’s lives a little more stress free..

CANCELLATION POLICY

There will be a 28.00 cancellation fee for 60 min Sessions not canceled within the time frame and 40.00 fee for 90 min Sessions not canceled within the time frame and 50.00 for 120 min Sessions not canceled within time frame.

A credit card will be required for all on-line scheduled appointments, and for all first time appointments to guarantee and reserve that time for you. Your card will not be charged, however you may use it to pay for services at the completion of your appointment.  Multiple services (of two or more), and packages require 48 hours cancellation notice. If you need to make a change to your reservation on the day of the service, such as moving the appointment time, a fee may be applied due to limited availability.
If you are booking your massage within 24 hours of the actual appointment, there is no cancellation and you will be charged the full amount of the appointment.
If a client fails to cancel within 24 hours multiple times (2 or more), they will be asked to pre-pay for future services.

Please note if you are using a voucher of any kind your voucher is subject to be redeemed and void and a fee of the difference between your voucher price and the actual price of the service can be charged to your card.

Massage therapy is not a substitute for medical attention, and it is essential that all health information provided be true and correct.  Nor are they allowed to provide treatment for a specific condition without a doctor's supervision. The massage therapist is required to refer you for diagnosis and to follow recommendations of your physician.

RESPECT FOR CLIENT NEEDS AND BOUNDARIES
The client may choose to: leave on as much clothing as needed for comfort, refuse any massage methods, stop massage at any time and is free to leave; the therapy door is never locked.
The client will always be modestly draped. Only the area being massaged will be undraped. The clients will be kept informed of the area to be massaged.
Occasionally, an emotional response to massage occurs. If this happens, it is ok to express the feelings in our safe, nonjudgmental environment - or you may request privacy and end the session. You are in control.

PROFESSIONAL BOUNDARIES
Requests for sexual activity will not be tolerated, will be viewed as solicitation, and reported to the proper authorities if the therapist chooses, under the guidelines of the massage therapy policies and procedures. The client will not be rescheduled if this occurs.
The breast and genital area will not be massaged under any circumstances. Permission will be asked before working close to these areas; otherwise, a professional distance will be maintained. Also, low back, hip & gluteal area will be massaged only with permission and can be worked through the draping if requested.
Sexual interaction or discussion of any kind between the client and the massage therapist is NEVER appropriate. On rare occasions an involuntary sensual response to massage is natural and will subside on its own in a few moments.
We do not massage anyone under the age of 17 without signed intake form from parent/legal guardian.  Parent must be present for first session and must be the one to schedule the appointment(s) after the first session.   Parent/legal guardian must be present in the room for anyone under the age of 13.
We have the right to refuse service and therapist or client may end the session at anytime.  If therapist ends session due to Sexual Misconduct full payment is due.
If the therapist feels at any point their safety is compromised, the session will be stopped immediately and authorities may be called and full payment is due.

CONFIDENTIALITY AND CONVERSATION
The discussion between the massage therapist and the client is confidential. The client may or may not choose to talk during the massage.
We are happy to listen to your conversation and share our professional expertise. We prefer to not discuss topics of a political, private or sexual nature.

EXISTING AND NEW MEDICAL CONDITIONS
It is the responsibility of the client to keep the massage therapist informed of any medical treatment or medications currently being taken, and to provide written permission from the physician, chiropractor, physical therapist, etc., that the massage may be continued.
The client must also keep the massage therapist informed of any changes in health conditions, if you don’t tell us we won’t know.
These policies and procedures are subject to change at any time.

FAQ

Do you accept walk-ins or short notice appointments?
No we do not take walk-ins.  All appointments are required to be scheduled online.

Do any of your therapists engage in any type of sexual massage?
Absolutely not! We employ trained and licensed massage therapists who offer you a powerful healing massage in a highly professional, mutually respectful environment. Please refrain from using any type of sexually suggestive remarks or actions. Doing so will result in immediate termination of your massage session.

Are there any cancellation fees?
Yes, please give a 24-hour notice if you need to cancel an appointment. If notice is not given you will be charged the full fee for the appointment time missed.

What about tipping?
If you like the service you received, tips are always appreciated.

How early should I arrive for my massage?
We ask that new clients arrive 10 minutes prior to their session to fill out preliminary paperwork and have a consultation with their therapist on the type of massage they'd like. Existing clientele should arrive approx. 5 minutes before their session.

What about talking during a massage session?
It is okay to talk with your therapist during your massage, but it is also okay to just “check out” for an hour. We abide by this motto: “It’s your massage.” Spend the hour however you like. It is perfectly fine if you just zone out and relax. You won’t be seen as rude or uncaring if you just allow the therapist to do their job for the hour. Some people reach such a relaxed state that they fall asleep for the hour.

What should I expect on my first visit?
When you visit Stress Me Knot Massage you will be greeted by one of our therapist. You will be given a short informational brochure and some paperwork to be filled out. This paperwork will help us assist you when deciding what type of massage you may need. After completion of the paperwork you will be lead to a room where your therapist will talk with you about the type of massage you are looking for.

Share with your therapist whether you are looking for a general stress-reduction massage, or whether you are seeking help with a specific problem such as neck pain, lower back pain, headaches, carpal tunnel syndrome, or hand or arm pain. All these conditions can be effectively treated with massage therapy.

Next, you will be given privacy to undress and lie comfortably on the table with a sheet or blanket covering you. Remember, you will be covered at all times. Modesty will be maintained at all times during your massage session. If you are comfortable doing so, you may remove all your clothing. If you prefer, you may wear underclothes or swim wear and your therapist will work around any clothing. Most people disrobe completely.

Depth is the term massage therapists use to describe how much pressure they use during the massage session. Some people prefer lighter massage, where the strokes are flowing and easy. Others prefer deeper work where the muscles are checked for trigger points and tightness. Usually, the deeper the massage, the more discomfort you’ll experience, but a deeper massage offers greater potential to reduce many of the chronic pain patterns and muscle spasms that build up over time.

Please let your therapist know during the massage if the pressure needs to be deeper or lighter. Never endure a massage that is too deep or is painful. You will never offend a therapist by asking them to go lighter.

By the end of your massage you should feel very relaxed. You might feel a little sleepy. Your body will probably feel as though you’ve worked out. And in a sense, you have! Don’t rush to get up. Take it slowly. You will be given privacy to get dressed. If you have any questions, ask your therapist. Drink plenty of water after your massage as this only help improve the results of your massage. You should feel better immediately after your first massage. But in most cases, benefits are cumulative – your health and well-being will continue to improve with each massage.
